Hello world!

September 13, 2012

It is my second daughter’s 11th Birthday today, and I am launching this modest attempt at a web-presence by a luddite who has always loved reading books, talking about books, teaching books (at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario CANADA) and eventually, writing books….

The quote is from my 2nd book of poems, LOVING THE ALIEN (Sudbury: Your Scrivener Press, 2006: www.scrivenerpress.com), and is appropriate to this week’s marking of the 11th anniversary of the terrorist bombings in America….which occurred two days before my second daughter was born….leaving me struggling with the meaning of life, birth and death all in one week….blessed by a healthy baby, but saddened and sobered by the world she was entering, all unaware….I am still touched by the stories of survivors of this attack out of a ‘clear blue sky’….and the latest plan to help assist firefighters and other emergency responders with their own illness due to the toxic environment they rushed into a decade ago, heedless of their own lives.

I am also preparing to ‘birth’ my third book of poems, MY MOTHER DID NOT TELL STORIES, to be published by Demeter Press, out of Toronto, this October…the journey of motherhood that began in 1998, and then again in 2001, is obviously central to the poems, which are mainly ‘narratives of the heart’ and my attempt to encapsulate the highs and lows, ambivalence and lessons, of mothering in the 21st century.http://www.demeterpress.org/MyMotherDidNotTellStories.html
